Martin Luther King is a significant individual remembered by all as a key and a formative figure in the modern fight for civil right in America.
After Martin Luther King's death, Coretta Scott King established the King center to promote the concept of nonviolent struggle.The King Center in Atlanta is a living memorial to King’s vision of a free and equal world dedicated to expanding opportunity, fighting racism and ending all forms of discrimination. She also led the successful effort to honour her husband and his contributions in 1986, when the congress established a national holiday in honour of King's birthday. It is the first national holiday to honour an African American individual in America's history. The Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University is home to the King Papers Project. It stores a comprehensive collection of all the King’s speeches and his other writings and honours a diverse global audience to learn about King’s dream of global peace with social justice. The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial was made in honour of Martin King's contributions and his leading of the famous March on Washington in 1963. In 1996, the Congress authorised the memorial, and the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation was founded in 1998 to raise money for construction. This memorial serves as a remembrance of this important figure in history and invites its visitors to reflect and Martin Luther King's life. America remembers him for his contributions such as garnering world attention on how African- Americans were treated unfairly and helped millions of Americans with his strong leadership and his power of speech which gave people hope and courage to follow him, which also continues to inspire people around the world to work for peace, justice and to promote to live the Martin's dream. Dr. King's legacy has inspired civil rights activists to continue to fight for justice as long as there is injustice in the world. Organisations like the NAACP have carried on his work on behalf of all people of colour and have strived to keep his dream alive for the future generations to live in a world free of racism. Martin Luther king today is considered to be one of the most significant figures of the 20th century, for everyone seeking freedom, justice, equity, and peace. His approach to nonviolent protests stands as one of the most successful ways to solve world's ongoing struggles with violent conflicts. Overall, Martin Luther King Jr. is not only known as a symbolic leader who led the African Americans but is also, recognised as a great civil rights activist internationally with his activities bringing major changes in federal laws to provide fair and equal treatment and rights to all people of different sex, race and skin colour in the United States of America. |
